Hersham in Bloom is a community project aimed at increasing civic pride in the village via participation in the RHS's Britain in Bloom initiative. We encourage residents and businesses to get involved in our programme which will further enhance the village, making it a brighter, cleaner and greener place in which to live, work, and do business.
In 2007, our first year, we achieved a Silver Award in the South and South East in Bloom region and achieved Silver again in 2008 and 2009. We thank all our sponsors, volunteers, Elmbridge Borough Council, and Surrey County Council for helping us achieve this great honour. We hope in this coming year to build on everything we have learned in previous years for an even more successful campaign for 2010.
Hersham in Bloom is more than just flowers though. Throughout 2009 Hersham in Bloom Working Parties participated in clean-up efforts throughout Hersham: picking weeds, raking leaves, clearing litter, and more.
Hersham in Bloom also worked in partnership with Three Valleys Water to promote water conservation and handed out Hog Bags and other water saving devices to the residents of Hersham. A very generous and gracious donation of 10 water butts from Three Valleys Water was used to provide one at the Centre for Retired People and another at Hersham Library, so that collected water can be used to irrigate the floral displays. The rest have been made available as prizes for local Hersham residents in competitions organised as part of Hersham in Bloom.
We are proud that Hersham in Bloom placed a total of 47 half-barrel planters in the village centre last year. This has brought a welcome splash of colour for everyone in Hersham. If you would like to help us just bring your gardening gloves. Dates of the next working parties will be advertised on the events page or call either Mary Sheldon on 01372 467812 or Les Sharp on 01932 242482 You can also contact them by email.
Good News - we won another Silver Award - 3rd. year running!
A big thank you to all our sponsors and helpers!
